:: DAC Does DFM

Pain at the 90nm node has turned DFM something of a semi-darling at DAC this year. DAC 2004 had just two DFM sessions; DAC 2005 has upped that to seven. 17 might be more appropriate.

DFM has only recently risen to the pain threshold of many CTOs and engineering managers. As a result, it has many personalities. Even definitions of DFM depend on who you ask - and what they want you to believe.

Nevertheless, in many respects DFM is quite a different animial than typical design processes. Two differences that will be topics at DAC are statistical optimization and variability.
